- Be quite clear about the decoration that you required. Be as specific as you possibly can with your requirements
- Ask to see examples/photos of other work he has carried out. This will be more important when you want a decorator to carry out complex work.
- Ask the decorator questions to establish whether he has the specialist skills to carry out the work you require
- Will the decorator be required to work around other building activity. If so, make this clear from thestart
- Ask for a detailed quote with each cost element specified
- Let the decorator know what your budget is. If there is more room for manoeuvre he might be able to offer options you might not have thought of
- Let the decorator know what the room will be used for and what items of furniture will be in the room.
- Make sure the decorator listens to your requirements and really understands them. It will probably be a long time before you decorate again so you want to get it right
